What a gorgeous walk. Bright sunshine and about 12 degrees. It amazes me now that when we first came here we were tired out by this walk – now at about 8 miles it seems a bit of a stroll.

I saw a deer, my first butterfly of the season (a peacock which I tried in vain to get a photo of) and three people in total over the whole walk.

There were some scouts out on the loch when I got back, and I wondered if they realized how fortunate they were to have selected this week in the great lottery which is the Argyll weather.

They have a residential base here and their season seems to have started now because we have seen groups around over the last few weeks. Often I feel quite sorry for them because they are out canoeing and abseiling and having to be jollied along in the most awful weather. Many years ago I can remember all the joys of a ‘Sausage Sizzle’ when I was in the Brownies. We looked forward to it for weeks then on the day it poured with rain, and the Sizzle turned into a Fizzle when it had to be moved indoors. The sausages were cold and wrinkled up and there was a queue a mile long for a ride on our unwilling hostess’ rocking horse… The joys of childhood.
