Some Coos https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2017/02/08/some-coos/ https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2017/02/08/some-coos/#respond Wed, 08 Feb 2017 21:47:46 +0000 http://www.donich.co.uk/?p=6800 Our friends the Hienlan Coos were out in strength this morning and in fact were pretty effectively blocking the path. They seem to have their calves at unusual times of the year (at least from my very limited farming knowledge – largely based on having read “The Children of Cherry Tree farm) – the top group suddenly acquired a little white faced calf back in October, and now the lower group near the hydro road suddenly have a little brown one which doesn’t look more than a few days old. That group are in with Billy the Bull at the moment, so doubtless more calves will be on their way soon.

Sadly, Billy is not a Highland bull but a Hereford (I think) so his half-breed offspring are likely going to end up as steaks on a plate in some upmarket Edinburgh restaurant.

The Brack https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2016/10/10/the-brack/ https://www.donich.co.uk/blog/2016/10/10/the-brack/#respond Mon, 10 Oct 2016 19:59:21 +0000 http://www.donich.co.uk/?p=6392 As it was a beautiful morning, I nipped up the Brack. Actually it was rather further than I remembered it being and I am a bit footsore tonight. The views on the way up and from the top were glorious though.

Here is the cairn at the summit just to prove I made it.

And on the way back down I met some escapees – I’m pretty sure they are not supposed to be half way up the mountain!
